Responsible use of indicators and metrics

PROMISE is not only committed to providing robust, high quality data and metrics with the aim of supporting the broad uptake of open and responsible practices in research and innovation. A central aspiration of PROMISE is to present the information as responsible as possible.

To achieve this, a ‘responsible quantification’ approach is applied according to which data and information are presented, and made interpretable, in appropriate ways. A related conceptual guidepost for PROMISE is what we call ‘credible contextualisation’: First, our indicator development was subject to a co-creation process with potential users. And secondly, where ever deemed necessary, the indicator data provided is accompanied by guidance to support the users in understanding and interpreting the indicator, but also raising awarenes of the indicator’s limits.

The PROMISE portal was developed by the EU funded research project SUPER MoRRI (Scientific Understanding and Provision of an Enhanced and Robust Monitoring System for Responsible Research and Innovation, Grant agreement No. 824671, 2019-2023), running from 2019 to 2023.
